Some people are reluctant to help us get the ban on assault weapons renewed, because they aren't fully aware of the situation. Please read this entire email and check out the links below, especially

Everyone who is in favor of the ban continuing, PLEASE take the action described below, NOW and keep calling your reps in congress. Be sure to remind them, since many have either forgotten, or are ignoring the fact that they are YOUR reps, voted in to give voice in Congress to their constituents (YOU,) not their own or the NRA's personal agenda! Time is rapidly running out. Remember President Bush has repeatedly pledged his support for the assault weapons ban. As recently as February 23, 2004, White House spokesperson Claire Buchan said "with regard to the assault weapons ban, President Bush supports the extension of the current ban."

Thanks,

Rita

Urgent: Don't Let the Assault Weapons Ban Expire

The national ban on military-style assault weapons will expire on Monday, September 13th, unless President Bush and Congress act now. President Bush promised to renew the ban, but instead he's letting it expire -- he has refused to call on Congress to deliver it for his signature.

For 10 years the assault weapons ban has taken the deadliest weapons off our streets, cutting their use in crimes 66 percent. But beginning Tuesday the 14th, an 18-year-old will once again be able to buy an AK-47 assault rifle in most states.

We can stop this if we speak up now. President Bush and Congress must renew the assault weapons ban, not let it expire. Please join me in demanding it, at:

Thank you.

INFORMATION ON THE ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN

http://jewishalliance.org/info/0000007a.htm

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban will expire September 13th, and if Congress and the President do not act, military-style assault weapons will return to our streets. Assault weapons are manufactured to kill the maximum number of human beings as quickly and efficiently as possible. Thepublic as well as gun enthusiasts favor renewing the assault weapons ban. Field & Stream magazine conducted a survey of its readers and found that 67% do not consider assault weapons to be legitimate hunting guns. 63% of gun owners favor renewing the ban.The Assault Weapons Ban has worked. Between 1993 and 2001, the percentage of crime gun traces involving assault weapons dropped 79% for assault weapons named in the ban, and 58% when both named assault weapons andtheir copies are counted. Since the Ban was enacted in 1994, child and teen deaths from firearms have dropped 56% - a steady decrease each and every year. These improvements are likely to be reversed if the assault

weapons ban expires. In the year before the 1994 ban went into effect, more than 2000,000 assault weapons were manufactured in the U.S. and a similar flood of these weapons onto the streets of America is expected if the ban expires. ----------------------------

Illegal arms hidden aboard a Turkish ship headed for New York were seized during a routine customs inspection in a port in southern Italy. Italian officials found more than 7,500 AK-47s and other Kalashnikov assault weapons, Fox News reported April 21.According to Italian officials, the rifles and machine guns were hidden under properly labeled firearms in large cargo containers on the ship MS Adnan Bayraktar, which had come from the Romanian port of Constanta. The illegal weapons were valued at more than $6 million. The U.S. destination for the cargo was a company based in Georgia. Because of security concerns, officials refused to identify the business.------------------------------
