Several legislators are still undecided and a large show of support will help convince them the majority of the public find this cruel practice unacceptable. The hearing starts at 9 a.m. in Room 447 at the State Capitol. If you can attend, please email pam @ avar.org (remove 2 spaces) to let us know you will be there. Also, if you haven't yet sent in a support letter, please go to www.avar.org/foiegras2.html for details and email and fax contacts for the assembly members. Please submit a letter as soon as possible (with your full name and address included.)HELP ALSO NEEDED TO DEFEAT AB 2915 ON JUNE 22Also on June 22, AB 2915 will be heard in the Senate Natural Resources Committee. We are in OPPOSITION to this bill, which would weaken the import restrictions for kangaroo skins into California. Companies like Adidas want to import kangaroo skins from Australia to make soccer cleats but synthetic alternatives are readily available. And the kangaroo population has plummeted in Australia in recent years. The Senate Natural Resources Committee hearing starts at 9 a.m. in Room 112 at the State Capitol. Representatives of Viva!USA will be following the activity in that committee, and there will likely be the opportunity to testify at both hearings on the same morning, depending on the order in which the bills are heard. For more information on AB 2915 and info on where to send an opposition letter, go to www.vivausa.org/urgentactions/ab2915.htm #### Pam RunquistDirector of Companion Animal IssuesAssociation of Veterinarians for Animal RightsPO Box 208Davis, CA 95617-0208Tel: (530) 759-8106pam @ avar.org (remove 2 spaces) 83The average number of livessaved by a vegetarianin one yearfeeding plants to animalsthen eating the animalsis like filtering water through a sewerand then drinking it
