A particularly poignant time are the winter months when dolphins become victims of the pair-trawling industry which fishes for sea-bass in the western approaches off the coast of Cornwall. It is estimated that the visible victims of all by catch founded stranded dead or alive are only 5% of the total causalities. Despite noises from the UK government and the European Parliament about tackling the issue the deaths are on-going. However it is imperative that if this problem is tackled it be at a European level, as hosts of pair-trawlers, trawlers ,gill-netters et al originate from the European community. DESIRED OUTCOME: to reduce and end the entanglement and by catch mortality of whales and dolphins by the fishing industry WHO WE NEED TO INFLUENCE: The policy makers; Franz Fischler, Commissioner for Fisheries and Margot Wallstrom , Commissioner for Environmment ;200 Rue de la Loi, B-1049 Brussels Everybody who signs it, often those who express a love of dolphins are fish eaters. HOW LONG WILL WE CAMPAIGN: Until the oceans are no longer blood red or the end of 2010 "When whales and dolphins cry for their dead, the oceans are filled with tears" WHO TO CONTACT: Cetacea DefencePO BOX 78SHAFTESBURYDORSETUKcetaceadefenceuk @ .co.uk (remove 2 spaces)
