Fund.org | Take Action | DonateProtect the Pennsylvania Constitution From Hunters! On February 9, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed HB 1512 which will amend the Pennsylvania Constitution with the following language:

"The right of the people to hunt and fish shall not be prohibited, subject to reasonable restrictions relating to seasons, licensure, limits, methods and locations, as prescribed by the laws of this Commonwealth. However, this right shall not be construed to confer a right to a license to hunt or fish issued by the Commonwealth when the privilege to hold such a license has been revoked or suspended pursuant to an act of the General Assembly."

This bill is a silly and frivolous attempt to make the hunters feel good about their "sport." However there is dangerous language in the bill and we need our members to make calls to oppose it. Please call, write or e-mail your own State Senator and the entire Senate Judiciary Committee.

Also, if you have time to write letters to the editors of your local newspapers expressing your opposition, please contact hprescott @ fund.org (remove 2 spaces) for sample letters.

Thank you for your help. Take Action! Please login to The Fund for Animals' Personal Action Center, where you can choose this action for your state and then print, fax or email your state legislators: http://action.fund.org/action/login.asp Or go directly to the alert (if you do not first login, you will not have the option of printing and mailing your letters) This is necessary to reach Senator John R. Gordner and Senator John C. Rafferty, Jr. who do not have e-mail:http://action.fund.org/action/index.asp?step=2 & item=10123 Talking points about HB 1512:

1. It is a frivolous attempt by a special interest group to hijack the Constitution and clutter the state's most important charter of governance. 2. It would open the door to a flood of other amendments to make political statements for special interest groups. 3. It is a solution in search of a problem. Unfortunately even if the amendment is rejected, Pennsylvania residents will continue to be able to hunt, fish, and trap as they do now. 4. Because of the word "reasonable" it may lead to a rash of expensive lawsuits by hunters who want longer hunting seasons, larger bag limits, or additional species. .
