The Flip FlopThe U.S. Commerce Department ruled on December 31, 2002 that purse seine tuna fishing had no impact on dolphin populations in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. But we recently discovered a government memo, dated December 20, 2002, that says just the opposite. What does it all mean? It likely means the Bush Administration performed a major flip flop to weaken the Dolphin Safe label based on politics, not

science.

There are few places left in America where cockfighters can let the feathers fly. Louisiana and New Mexico are the last two states where the bloodsport remains legal. The fact is most Americans abhor cockfighting: Polls and ballot initiatives in states like Louisiana and Oklahoma confirm it. So do newspaper editorials that condemn it. Yet for all the success that The HSUS has had in banning cockfighting, we've had to fight for each and every victory. And sometimes, like in Oklahoma, we have to keep fighting even after the victory has already been secured. Wayne Pacelle reviews our seemingly neverending battle against cockfighting.
