FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 16, 2004 Contact: Jodie Wiederkehr or Steve Hindi at 630-557-0176 or 630-640-1889 cell. AkronDeerTorture.com showing cruel Akron slaughter worldwide Embarrassed Metro Parks officials still illegally holding cameras The Akron area's recent deer slaughter is now getting the attention it deserves. The website, www.AkronDeerTorture.com is now up and running on the worldwide web, complete with video clips of wounded and suffering deer. "We're getting tons of hits, and people are expressing their outrage worldwide," says Outreach Coordinator Jodie Wiederkehr. This site has complete information about how Akron's Metro Parks and city officials are killing wildlife with tax dollars, and then lying to the taxpayers about the program. Connecticut-based White Buffalo, Inc. was hired by Metro Parks to murder between one and two hundred deer in four parks - Sand Run, Cascade Valley (dubbed "Death Valley"), Munroe Falls and Silver Creek. SHARK's undercover video cameras videotaped not only maimed, flailing deer, but also the attempts by the killers to hide the bloody evidence by tightening plastic bags over the heads of still living deer as they fought for life. Besides lying about animal abuse, Metro Parks is committing grand theft by refusing to return over $5,000 worth of SHARK's cameras and equipment, which is still being illegally held. "SHARK broke no laws, and Metro Parks knows it," says SHARK President Steve Hindi. "It is the Metro Parks that violated the public trust." "We want Akron residents to know how their tax dollars are being spent. If you live near or visit Akron's Metro Parks, you should be able to see active, peaceful deer – not mutilated and dead deer!" Hindi exclaimed. Please contact Metro Parks' Chief Ranger Ray Dickson or spokespeople Susan Fairweather and Mike Johnson, and ask them why they have not returned SHARK's equipment.
