[stopNightmareDogIndustries] Illinois Judge Finds Puppy Killer Not Guilty

On June 19, 2003, Niles resident Peter Stratigos kicked his 3-month-old shepherd-mix puppy to death, authorities report. According to news sources, Stratigos, who was subsequently charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals, claimed in court that he was only trying to protect his 4-year-old son from the 15-pound puppy. For more details, please read the article at http://www.pioneerlocal.com/cgi-bin/ppo-story/localnews/current/ni/03-04-04-235329.html.Veterinarian Dr. Wanda Haschek-Hock reportedly testified that a necropsy (autopsy) performed on the puppy revealed three fractured ribs, a ruptured liver, bruising to the lungs, internal hemorrhaging in several areas (including the heart), and a broken hind leg, shoulder blade, and jaw. We see injuries of this

kind in animals that have been hit by cars, stated another veterinarian who was present in court. Unbelievably, on February 26, Circuit Judge Garritt Howard found Stratigos not guilty. Judge Howard allegedly concluded that the defendant was only culpable of overreacting and using poor judgment in his alleged attempt to protect his child. Please explain to Judge Garitt Howard that he exercised poor judgment by believing Stratigos claims that he kicked a puppy to death to protect his son. Politely remind Judge Howard and his boss, Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans, that cruelty to animals must be taken seriously for the safety of the community as well as its animals. (See http://www.peta.org/mc/facts/fsc24.html.) In order not to detract from our campaign, it is imperative that all correspondence be polite and dignified. The Honorable

Timothy C. Evans, Chief JudgeThe Honorable Garritt Howard, Judge Circuit Court of Cook CountyFirst Appellate District 2600 Richard J. Daley Ctr.50 W. WashingtonChicago, IL 60602312-603-5366 (fax)<juryadm
