Guest guest
URGENT PLEA : STOP BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S SABOTAGING OF THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT. DEADLINE : OCT 17, FRIDAY . Dear Caring friends , ! Egroups has placed more and more restrictions on members' email sending capability which is reducing members' FREE SPEECH RIGHTS. Please PROTEST to Egroups which recently blocked members' email campaigns or announcements by limiting the number of the Egroups a member can send . However, many Egroup members have multiple interests and usually associated with many Egroups. 's recent policy is interfereing with our rights of Free Speech. Please politely urge to stop such interferring. Please send your serious Protest to Egroups : -feedback, experience , ----------------- Secondly, let's all send a quick note to FWS to let the Canada Geese live. The public has until Monday, October 20 to submit comments opposing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services' proposed regulations to kill hundreds of thousands of Canada Geese (see detail in HUMANElines Issue 265). Please simply asking : Please let the Canada Geese live. Thanks. Email Address: canada_goose_eis --------------------- Now, let's back to the real big topic : Let's send a very urgent letter to US Fish and Wildlife Services to STOP THE IMPORT OF ENDANGERED ANIMALS BY ZOOS, CIRCUSES, TROPHY HUNTERS and THE PET INDUSTRY. The Deadline is Oct 17, Friday. The Washington Post (10/11) has reported that the Bush Administration's drastic proposal to eviscerate the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) would have " far-reaching changes to conservation policies that would allow hunters, circuses and the pet industry to kill, capture and import animals on the brink of extinction in other countries. " The ESA was passed in 1973 to effectively prohibit Americans from participating in international trade in endangered wildlife, but thanks in part to lobbying by trophy hunting groups like the Safari Club International, the Bush Administration is pushing changes that would allow, and even encourage, the trade in endangered animals (like the endangered Asian elephant), under the twisted logic that doing so would raise funds to help pay for their conservation. This pivotal decision pending on the fate of endangered species everywhere hinges, in much part, on the public's feedback to the proposed changes to the ESA. WHAT YOU CAN DO: Because this issue is so CRITICAL , so URGENT, Please let's all send an EMAIL and FAX letters to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by Friday, October 17, urging it to reject the proposed changes to the ESA and to not allow the import of endangered animals by zoos, circuses, trophy hunters and the pet industry. Enclosed is a SAMPLE LETTER and CONTACT INFORMATION. Every Contact is important to reach. PLEASE ACT NOW !!! You can find the Federal Register regarding this draft policy at: www.policy.fws.gov/library/03-20941.pdf More References : http://action.fund.org/action/index.asp?step=2 & item=5090. http://www.truthout.org/docs_03/101303D.shtml ======================================== SAMPLE LETTER : (Please place your Name, Address, City, State, Zip at the BEGINNING and END of your letter if you send an Email . ) Chief, Division of Management Authority U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 4401 N. Fairfax Dr., Rm. 700 Arlington, VA 22203 Dear Division of Management Authority I am opposed to the " Draft Policy for Enhancement-of-Survival Permits for Foreign Species Listed Under the Endangered Species Act " (68 Fed. Reg. 49512, August 18, 2003). This proposal would weaken the Endangered Species Act so severely that it would undermine the original intention of the Act which has enjoyed broad support amongst Americans since its initial adoption in the 1970s. This Draft Policy allows the issuance of import permits to Zoos, Circuses, Hunters, and other wildlife based entities provided that ensuing revenue from that importation is used for " conservation " purposes. There is no definition of " conservation purposes " and no plan set forth by which the USFWS would ensure that the money in fact goes toward such endeavors. In reality, the USFWS is powerless to influence financial transaction in other sovereign nations, thereby making this requirement unenforceable. The United States Government has long been a global leader in the conservation of endangered species. This misguided policy would negate all of those efforts. I strongly encourage the USFWS to reject the Draft Policy. I will be looking forward to your answer on this most critical issue. Thank you . Sincerely, Your Name, Your Address, Your City, Your State , Zip Code Your Country. =========================================== CONTACT INFORMATION : 1: Please send an EMAIL and FAX to the following : Chief, Division of Management Authority U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 4401 N.
