We call on the U.S. government to halt its' unacceptable Makah whaling policy and respect the laws of the U.S., as well as international law. We respect and admire the people of the Makah Nation, but know that the killing of gray whales will not help them rediscover their past. In fact, the Makah people are strong enough to take pride in their heritage without the further killing of whales. It is very clear that the whales of the world's oceans face a lot of problems day by day. The resumption of whale killing is not acceptable by ANY nation. We will continue to oppose whale killing, whether by the U.S., Japan, Norway, Faroe Islands or any other nation. We also stand firmly in support of the anti-whaling groups currently opposing the U.S. government's whaling policies in Washington state, including the Peninsula Citizens for the Protection of Whales, U.S. Citizens Against Whaling, and Ocean Defense International. There is a profound admiration for Native Americans here in Germany. To us, Native peoples represent a symbol for peacefully sharing our lives on this earth, not for plundering the earth. We hope the Makah people choose the path of peace, not killing. We have gathered on the banks of the Rhine River here in Germany to place this message in a bottle. We hope the sea will carry our message to the shores of Washington state, and we hope our message is clear. Please stop killing whales!!!
