Guest guest
ATTEND TOWN HALL MEETINGS NOW , THE MOST DIRECT APPROACH TO VOICE YOUR OPINIONS! Dear Caring friend, Congress is in its August/Labor Day recess now , and will remain on break until September 3 for the U.S. Senate, and September 4 for the U.S. House. Many lawmakers use this time to hold TOWN HALL meetings, where they can report on what they've been doing in Washington, and TAKE QUESTIONS from their constituents. These meetings offer a tremendous opportunity for you to personally voice your concerns. Please contact your lawmakers' district offices and ask WHEN they plan to hold their town hall meetings during the August recess. If you do not know the number for your lawmakers' district offices(include your two U.S. Senators and one U.S. Representatives), please click the following site, (Find your Zip + 4 , Zip code look up first) then enter your entire Zip code (with 4 digits code at the end) and click GO : http://www.vote-smart.org/index.phtml Please make a print out of the following REQUESTS Summary and details and sign with Your Name, Your Address, Phone number at the Beginning of the report to present to your legislators in the Town Hall meetings. Please also ask the questions in the meetings to them if you can. (you are welcome to make your own requests if you wish . ) Request # 4, # 5, # 6 are related to the guns. Guns kill more than 30,000 Americans(the highest number in the world) each year in the U.S. Even more, it mercilessly kills millions upon millions of wildlife each year in this country too. Animal welfare groups have been completely silent on this issue. Now it is the time to address the Source of the cruelty. This Face to Face requests are most effective way to communicate with your Legislators . Please read it loudly in the meeting if you can ! Thanks. Let's all go for it. ========================================== MY REQUESTS . MY NAME : MY PHISICAL ADDRESS: MY PHONE NUMBER: CONSTITUENT(S). The SUMMARY OF MY REQUESTS ARE : 1: PLEASE INCREASE FUNDING FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE HUMANE SLAUGHTER ACT(HSA). 2: PLEASE URGE CONGRESS TO OPPOSE THE COMMERCIAL WHALING. PLEASE OPPOSE THE DANGEROUS RMS ( " REVISED MANAGEMENT SCHEME " .). 3: PLEASE OPPOSE DRILLING IN NATIONAL ARCTIC WILDLIFE REFUGE. PLEASE OPPOSE S.388, S. 389 . 4: PLEASE SUPPORT S. 767 ., SUPPORT S. 890 . 5: PLEASE SUPPORT S. 1253 6: PLEASE OPPOSE H.R. 2037. ================================================ THE DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF EACH REQUEST : REQUEST # 1 : PLEASE INCREASE THE IMPORTANT FUNDING FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE HUMANE SLAUGHTER ACT(HSA) : There are more than 6000 slaughterhouses in the U.S. There are TEN BILLIONS of animals are slaughtered each year in US. However, the HSA is not enforced. Dave Carney, an USDA meat Inspector for two decades and was Chairman of the National Joint Council of Food Inspection Locals stated : " ..... They are not even killing animals. They are " disassembling " them. To keep production line moving fast, uncooperative animals are beaten, they have prods poked in their faces and up their rectums, they have bones broken and eyeballs poked out... Some animals are simply beaten to death. Some even reach various stages of the slaughtering process alive. They have their hooves cut off, parts of their bung and their cavities opened ...... The Inspectors I talk to are from all over the country, it is an everyday's occurrence clear across the United States. It occurs in swine. It occurs in beef. It occurs in calves. Sheep. All species ! The Humane Slaughter Act is a regulation on paper only. It is not being enforced. Japan continuously perform its " Vote-Buying " to the poor nations. Without stopping this vicious bribing, the whaling ban could be lifted next year ! The the large scale of the slaughtering will start. The very limited number of whales will be all wiped out in no time. b: Oppose the dangerous RMS (Revised Management Scheme). It is a plan to resume and legalize the Commercial whaling and discard the Whaling ban. ================================================ REQUEST # 3 : OPPOSE DRILLING IN NATIONAL ARCTIC WILDLIFE REFUGE. ASK your U.S. Senator to oppose drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by OPPOSING S.388, S. 389 !!! This is the last chance for National Arctic Wildlife Refugee, because the House already passed this ridiculous Energy bill to let the oil drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refugee. The National Energy Security Act of 2001 (S.388 and S.389), as proposed by Sen. Frank Murkowski , would be a massive transfer of funds from the nation's taxpayers to corporate polluters. A major aspect of the bill is opening Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is among the wildest, most pristine places in the United States. The 1.5-million acres of its coastal plain being proposed for oil exploration are the most biologically productive part of the Refuge, and the heart of its wildlife activity. A total of 135 bird species from four continents use the Refuge's coastal plain. As many as 300,000 snow geese feed on the coastal tundra in the fall . Northern pintail ducks, mallards, red-throated loons, tundra swans and white-fronted geese are among the many other migratory species known to inhabit the Arctic coastal plain during the year. More than 100 additional species of wildlife rely on the coastal plain which is the central calving ground for the porcupine caribou herd, the most important land denning habitat for polar bears in the Alaskan Arctic, habitat for wolves and grizzly and brown bears, and year-round home to muskoxen, arctic foxes and wolverines. The available oil from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a drop in the bucket of America's energy needs. The best U.S. Geological Survey estimate is that less than a six-month supply of oil could be economically recovered from the Arctic Refuge. The drilling would be far too little to risk damaging its royal splendor. The Arctic National Wildlife Refugee is for all of the American's future thousands of generations to enjoy forever. =============================================== REQUEST # 4 : SUPPORT S. 767 , introduced by Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and SUPPORT S. 890 , introduced by Senators Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.). SUPPORT S. 767: A bill to extend the Brady background checks to " gun shows " . Gun shows are exhibited or offered for sale or exchange. Firearms may be sold anonymously, often without background checks and frequently use guns that cannot be traced to later commit crimes; Gun violence is a pervasive, national problem that is exacerbated by the availability of guns at gun shows, flea markets, and other organized events. SUPPORT S. 890 : Gun Show Loophole Closing and Gun Law Enforcement Act of 2001 ( Please refer to http://thomas.loc.gov , simply enter bill number , to get the detail info. (References: http://millionmommarch.com/chapters/national/learn_more/loophole/ http://millionmommarch.com/chapters/national/learn_more/gun_facts/ =============================================== REQUEST # 5 : SUPPORT S. 1253, introduced by Senators Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)-which seeks to establish the gun registry. It will give the FBI authority to retain records of gun purchasers (Note: All of the bills and its detail information can be accessed from : http://thomas.loc.gov ) ================================================ REQUEST # 6 : OPPOSE H.R. 2037, introduced by U.S. Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Chris John (D-La.)-which seeks to prohibit lawsuits towards the trouble maker gun manufacturers. (Note: All of the bills and its detail information can be accessed from : http://thomas.loc.gov ) ================================================== A FINAL SPECIAL NOTE : The town hall meeting is an important community meeting. Therefore , please in addition to attend Town Hall meetings and speaking out your concerns and requests , please make a copy of your report as well as the town hall meeting dates, times, and locations to your family members and friends and urge them to join you to speak out too. Without convincing the legislators, there will be no laws to protect billions of suffering animals . It is very important to get involved as a concerned citizen and a concerned CONSTITUENT. Thanks for your kindness, compassion and help. ======================================== Thanks so much for your kindness, compassion and help for billions of animals plight.
