Last year, $32 billion was spent in the budget bill on payments to

farmers and ranchers. But only $2 billion of that went to help farmers

improve water and air quality, reduce erosion, create wildlife habitat

and protect their farms and ranches from sprawling development. These

conservation programs have a tremendous impact upon the future of

threatened wildlife species like the black-tailed prairie dog, the sage

grouse, and the black-footed ferret. By increasing conservation funding

in the budget bill now, you can fund critical conservation programs that

protect wildlife and improve our environment.

 

I am writing to ask you to sign the Reed/Jeffords/Leahy letter to the

Senate Budget Committee in support of increased funding for agricultural

conservation programs. This increased funding is critical for the

Conservation Reserve Program, Wetlands Reserve Program, Wildlife

Habitat Incentives Program, Environmental Quality Incentives Program.

 

I urge you to support increased funding for programs that preserve our
