One of its Virginiastations slaughtered a steer. In Colorado, a DJ tossed a live hen out ofa third-story window. Apparently these exhibitions were intended tomuster controversy and hype. Instead, they instigated undue sufferingand alienated many listeners.On February 27, "Bubba the Love Sponge" (aka Todd Clem) ofWXTB-98 Rock in Tampa, invited a local slaughterhouse owner tohog-tie, castrate and slit the throat of a conscious pig in the WXTBparking lot. The terrified animal suffered unconscionably throughoutthe ordeal, his legs involuntarily twitching as the blood streamedfrom his neck.This "contest" kill, concocted for the purpose of castrating andconsuming the pig's testicles, amounts to the audio version of an animalsnuff film. To torture an un-anesthetized animal under the guise of"entertainment" is sadistic. Please investigate and prosecute ClearChannel Communications, Inc., the company who owns WXTB.In their most lurid stunt to date, Clear Channel's WXTB violated Florida's anti-cruelty statutes, which state: "Any person who intentionallycommits an act to any animal which results in the cruel death, orexcessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain and suffering,or causes the same to be done" is guilty of felony cruelty. Mr. Clem isclearly guilty of "infliction of unnecessary pain." Witnesses havecompiled photographs of the incident and two Tampa officers wereallegedly present at the slaughter.Furthermore, the Humane Slaughter Act does not permit the deliberatetransfer of an animal from slaughterhouse grounds to the parking lot ofa business/residential district, to be tortured and butchered withoutstunning devices. A license to kill is not a roaming or vicariouslicense.Clear Channel Communications, Inc.-among the largest media chainsin the United States-has overstepped animal abuse laws.
