There was a story in the January 22nd Dallas Morning News about another psycho who has gouged out the eyes of a puppy. There has already been donated $26,000 reward toward the capture and prosecution of the person or persons responsible. As you may be aware, the FBI has found that a history of cruelty to animals is one of the traits that regularly appears in its computer records of serial rapists and murderers, and the standard diagnostic and treatment manual for psychiatric and emotional disorders lists cruelty to animals as a diagnostic criterion for conduct disorders. Animal abuse is not just the result of a minor personality flaw in the abuser, but a symptom of a deep disturbance.It is time to send a clear message to people capable of intentionally inflicting serious injury or death to helpless animals, that such brutal and senseless crimes will not be tolerated and that there are guaranteed consequences for those who would show such disdain for the law.As a society, we must call a halt to the acceptance of animal cruelty and enforce a policy of harsh punishment for these sadistic crimes.
