On January 29, 2000, IDA learned that Stephens, Inc.was the secret U.S.

investor that saved Huntingdon Life Sciences from being closed by

extending them a $33 million loan. Stephens, Inc. was already HLS's

largest shareholder with 45.6 million shares.

 

On January 17th, representatives from Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty

had met with two representatives of Stephens regarding its holding

shares in HLS. SHAC presented information from the five investigations

inside HLS and documented a detailed pattern of animal abuse and

horrific cruelty going on inside the labs.

 

SHAC also provided information as to why HLS is a bad business

investment. Stephens choose to ignore these facts and is now

responsible for keeping Huntingdon Life Sciences open.

 

We must remember that for

 

Each day that HLS remains open, another 500 dogs, cats,

monkeys and other animals die in agony.

 

 

Stephens must be held accountable.
