Tragically, more than 100 dogs, cats, and other animals perished.Due to heroic efforts of the fire department, police, staff, and volunteers, at least 85 of the 200 animals in the shelter survived. Many of those are being treated for smoke inhalation and burns. How you can help after our terrible fire Saturday night Individual and corporate donations are urgently needed to treat the animals and to raise the $3.5 million to $5 million to rebuild. This includes money as well as building supplies and services.The best place to send cash donations is Palomar Community Bank, PO Box 3449, Escondido, CA 92033. All checks should be made out to Escondido Humane Society.Acacia Animal Hospital is taking care of some of the most critically injured animals. They need food, blankets, and towels. Acacia is also accepting donations and helping to coordinate volunteers. They are located at 1040 North Broadway, Escondido and can be reached at (760) 745-8115. They are open between 7 AM and 8 PM during the week.Media coverage is being provided by a number of organizations, including:Channel 8 KFMB at noon, 4:00, 5:00 and 6:30 news, Channel 10 KGTV, San Diego Union, and North County TimesYou can also call North County Animal Control at (760) 438-2312.At this moment we are putting together a comprehensive plan and will post additional information as it becomes available."
