Re: Cancel Deer Hunt!

 

Dear Sir/Madam:

 

This letter is in protest of the deer hunt scheduled for January in

Montgomery County.

 

In 1996, the Agricultural History Farm Park in Maryland was home to

approximately 500 wild deer. By November 2000, following four years of

public hunts in the park, this number was cut to only 178. After this

November's hunt, the final deer population stands at only 73- a

reduction of 85% in only four days of hunting. Another deer hunt will

almost certainly wipe out any remaining deer.

 

Furthermore, every deer hunt poses a considerable public safety risk for

the nearby homeowners, many of whom moved near the Farm Park in

appreciation of, not in spite of, the abundant local wildlife.

Scheduling a recreational hunt against the Park's wild animals does a

disservice to both animal and human residents.

 

Please cancel this inhumane, unnecessary slaughter.
