CHRISTINE Voices For Animals [beavoice] Wednesday, 1 November 2000 10:44 CloseHLS [CloseHLS] HLS exposed yet AGAIN! Five Times Now! Yet More Scandal At Huntingdon Life Sciences In October 2000, just weeks after the xenotransplantation programme carried out at Huntingdon Life Sciences in collaboration with Imutran was exposed in the The Daily Express, Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty received documents, photographs and video footage taken inside Huntingdon Life SciencesÕs site at Occold in Suffolk. The material received by the campaign gave us shocking evidence of: a baboon escaping from an HLS lab, low staff morale, drunkenness, animal suffering, drug-taking on site, gross incompetence, high levels of absenteeism, safety regulations being flouted. Video footage shows the investigator wandering the site freely, completely unchallenged, entering units and rooms at will. So much for client confidentiality and security. The documents will prove a major embarrassment for HLS's customers exposed in the documents. We have confidential information regarding primate toxicology experiments paid for by major pharmaceutical companies such as Glaxo Wellcome, Monsanto, Du Pont and Roche. Drug-Taking One set of documents show that animal technician James Berry took the drug speed on site and offered it to several other workers. Greg Avery of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty stated: " It is unbeliievable that whilst HLS are saying things have changed, we can prove that at least one animal technician was on drugs at HLS. " Baboon Escape During the exposŽ an HLS worker was filmed admitting that a baboon had escaped from HLS's site at Huntingdon. She said " [the baboon] legged it across the A1. It ended up in the plant room. The engineers went up there and left the door open and it fucked off across the A1. " Greg Avery commented: " Just weeks after it was proved that some of the primates inside HLS were contaminated with the deadly Herpes B virus, we now find out that one escaped into the Cambridgeshire countryside. The public health risks of this are massive. " Greg Avery stated: " HLS have now been infiltrated and exposed 5 times. How much more evidence do the Home Office require before they close this shambolic company down? " Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty can provide video footage, photographs and documents from inside HLS's Eye Research Centre in Suffolk. ______________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
