Guest guest
Bernard Blanc. There is almost nobody in the world medias for talking about the difficult actions of some Israelis for peace. Here are some infos about that. Perhaps we could send to them some support-e-mails ? (to <otherisr) I don't have yet infos about arab groups doing the same work for peace. Could you tell me if you do know ? Best regards from France. Bernard Blanc. Thu, 12 Oct 2000 00:52:30 +0200 otherisr For your knowledge, whether you can come or not. ------- (We planned to send out this message already yesterday, but had some computer problems, so we missed informing you of the condolence visits which Peace Now and New Profile - each separately - organized today to Nazareth; and the visit by Rabbis for Human Rights to (Jewish and Arab) wounded in Rambam Hospital; to the bereaved family of Asil Asleh at Arrabe; and to the threatened mosque in Tiberias. At least RHR is planning more actions of this kind, for which you can call Rabbi Arik Asherman 050- 607034.) Here follows what - as far as we know - various groups have in store for the coming days: - Another visit to Nazareth will take place tomorrow (Thursday), organized by Hadash; the meeting point in Tel-Aviv is the corner of Arlozorov and Derech Haifa at 2.30. (To ensure a place in a car, call Tamar 050-200791.) - A permanent sit-in (day & night!) is taking place since yesterday in Jerusalem, at Hagar Sq. (as Kikar Paris is called by insiders) " To express horror at the killings and the extreme expression of racism and brutality within the Israeli society and police " and call for an End to the Occupation. You can stop by for whatever time you can spare - and people willing and able to spend the night would be most welcome. (Call: Naama 051-890714 ,050-678104 Neta 050-757504.) - In support of Noam Kuzar, the 19-year old soldier imprisoned for refusal to participate in what the army is doing to the Palestinians, a protest vigil will take place tomorrow (Thursday 12/10) at 4.30, outside the Defence Ministry in Tel-Aviv, organised by New Profile and Yesh Gvul and joined by Gush Shalom. (Info Lotan 053-257224, Vered 052-516630, Yishai 054-860050, Adam 03- 5565804.) If you can't come (and in fact, also if you can) it is very worthwhile to send postcards to Noam Kuzar 7016478, Pluga Alef, Military Post 02507, Tzahal. - Also Tomorrow at 4.30 PM, the Jewish-Arab youth movement Reut/Sadaka is holding a rally outside the Haifa Cinemateque, condemning violence and calling for complete equality in Israel. (Contact <reut, Uri 056- 359690). And a petition with the same demands is being circulated, with the intention of publishing it in Ha'aretz with an equal number of Jewish and Arab signatures. The text is available from jacobson or <raznona - On Friday it is very worthwhile, also this week, to reinforce the regular Women in Black/Gush Shalom vigil at Tnuva Junction in Tel-Aviv (corner of Namir and Petach Tikva Rd.) at 1.00 on Friday, and the Women in Black in Jerusalem at the same time, in Hagar/Paris Square. In Haifa the Anti-Apartheid Vigil is at 1:30 in Matam Junction. - Also on Friday, at 3.00 PM, there will be a solidarity visit to Jaffa. The meeting point is at A-Rabita (Jaffa Residents' Committee), 73 Yeffet St., Jaffa. Info: Adv. Nassim Shaker 050-406889. - On Saturday 14/10 at 4.00 PM, Hadash will hold a Jewish-Arab demonstration at Haifa with the call " Barak, you have no mandate for war! " . It will start at the corner of Shezaf and Abbas St. in Hadar Hakarmel. Transportation from Tel-Aviv at 2.00 PM from the corner Derech Haifa and Arlozorov. Info: 03-68335252, 02-6252627, 04-8536504. - The Bat Shalom women already have a tradition of organizing a Jewish- Arab Peace Tabernacle every year on Sukkot, at Meggido Junction in the north. This year, it is planned for Monday 16/10) , and it's all the more important. For details call Lili Traubman 06-6525853 or 053-966281, for transportation from Tel-Aviv Edna Yam 03-5278202, from Jerusalem Bat Shalom office 02-5631477. Finally, we pass on an interesting suggestion from From Rayna Moss: - As anyone with a TV in Israel knows, October 16 will be a day of solidarity with POW Ron Arad, marked by flying blue balloons everywhere. I want to propose an alternative protest/solidarity action: using a different color balloon (green?) to call for the release of all POWs, hostages and political prisoners, Israelis, Lebanese and Palestinians. This will only be effective if enough people join and if we make some sort of statement, so please respond. Rayna (legalese). (We apologize to anybody whose action was inadvertantly not mentioned, and please let us know of anything more which is planned.)
