+AD4- Several weeks ago, despite global condemnation, Japan sent out it's

whaling

+AD4- fleet and killed a Sperm whale, 4 Bryde's whales and 6 Minke whales. Japan

+AD4- is exploiting the IWC loophole of science to ensure that they continue to

+AD4- have whale meat in their markets. The Department of Commerce today has

+AD4- certified Japan as violating conservation law. This is the first step in a

+AD4- long process. The next step is the task force, that has been formed to

+AD4- discuss options available under the Pelly Amendment, has 60 days to

discuss

+AD4- options and send their recommendations to the President. The agencies

+AD4- involved are the Department of State, Dept of Commerce, Dept of Interior,

+AD4- Council on Environmental Quality and other White House Interoffice

Agencies

+AD4- that are concerned about Japan's whaling. These agencies need to hear from

+AD4- U.S. citizens that economic sanctions are the only appropriate response.

We

+AD4- have 60 days to make a difference. Email is good, but phone calls are

+AD4- better. A phone call means someone has to pick up the phone and have a

+AD4- conversation. Emails are too easy to ignore and delete. Make sure contacts

+AD4- are positive, but be firm that economic sanctions are the only appropriate

+AD4- action. They are working towards a solution on how to deal with Japan and
