Guest guest
URGENT NEWS ADVISORY Monday / May 29, 2000 (7:57 a.m.) MAKAH WHALING CREW TRYING TO MAKE KILL; DEFENDERS RESPOND NEAH BAY, WA (5/29/00 / 7:57 a.m.) - Makah whaling crews are on the water early Monday morning (Memorial Day), in a last gasp attempt to kill a whale. Whale defender boats from Ocean Defense International - with its full implement of jet skis - and World Whale Police have so far responded and are on the scene. ODI continues to charge that it appears the targets of the hunters are either mothers, calves or " resident " whales - all on the federal protected list. According to ODI, the whales in the area being tracked by the Makah are feeding and staying in the area, and not heading north are part of the migration. Under federal code, that means the Makah cannot kill them. -30-
