Fwd posting from my assistant Greg Myers, ASAIRS assistant:

======================================================

Attention all Missouri Residents; Animal Concerned Individuals, Groups,

Shelters, Rescuers, etc.

MO HB 1961 has passed the House! This is the Bill to make Pet Theft in

Missouri a Felony ... Please also contact your Missouri State Senator and ask

him to support this bill!!

However another very important Bill HB 1658 might not make it out of

committee this session, this would make the act of " bestiality " a felony in

Missouri also. Below is a past alert I have sent on this (slightly

modified), I now ask that WE ALL continue to solicite support for this

important and needed Bill and share this information with all of your

Missouri Families, Message Boards, Mail List, etc. Do not let this Bill

stagnate and in Committee ...

(ALERT)

I attended and testified at the Criminal Law Committee Hearing on April 5,

2000, concerning Missouri HB 1658 (the Bill to make Bestiality Illegal in

Missouri). Everything went well and the press was there, some of the

articles done are at the bottom of this lengthy e-mail. It appears this Bill

is having trouble getting out of committee due to the usual political

procedures and may stagnate until next session or longer. This stagnation

leads to the further " legal " sexual abuse of animals in Missouri.

We as concerned individuals can help this Bill move on and become law. There

are a few things I am asking you to do to help.

(1) Write the Criminal Law Committee Chairman (Rep. Craig Hosmer) and ask him

to give this bill (HB 1658) priority status and move it on to the House

Floor. Make him aware of the seriousness of this bill and the further

embarrassment Missouri is receiving over this issue. If you are a

non-Missouri resident you can inform him that you would not feel safe

traveling with your pet through Missouri and therefore will not visit or

travel through Missouri until this bill is passed.

Rep. Craig Hosmer can be contacted at:

Rep. Craig Hosmer

Jefferson City MO 65101

Capitol Ph: 573-751-9474

Capitol Fax: 573-526-6081

E-Mail: chosmer

(2) Write the Speaker of the House (Representative Steve Gaw) and ask him to

allow the attachment of HB 1658 to another Bill on the House Floor. He has

denied two such request from the Bill's sponsor Rep. Catherine Hanaway so

far. Also, remind Mr. Gaw that this Bill has bipartisan sponsorship

(Republican Sponsor (Ms. Hanaway) and Democrat Cosponsor (Ms. Hollingsworth).

And remind him of the same outlined facts in the above (1).

Rep. Steve Gaw can be contacted at:

E-Mail: sgaw01

(3) Also write your local Missouri State Representative and Senator and ask

them for their support of HB-1658 and that you feel this needs immediate

attention and priority status in its passing. Also ask them to possibly

consider sponsoring this Bill and introducing it on the Senate Floor or

attach it to another Bill that is already on the floor. Also, let them know

that you are tired of additional embarrassment brought to Missouri due to the

delay in passing this bill and the further media attention it is bringing to

our state and residents! You can also remind them that election time is just

around the corner! Also, ask your State Senator if they would sponsor this

Bill and introduce it on the Senate Floor.

Additional note on the Dr Weimberm, and Dr Collins' Indiana University biased

" study " on those who practice bestiality:

Dr Weimberm, a sociologist based with Indiana University earlier this year

had the audacity to send every Missouri House Representative a protest

letter, using the publically funded University name and net servers to

influence politics in another state.

Their sentiment is *AGAINST ANY LAWS* making bestiality and sexual assaults

on animals a crime!

My assistant has a copy of their biased letter to the reps:

http://members.tripod.com/~judymyers/indiana.html

These two Indiana University professors have also just begun a study on

zoophilia in September of 1999. This study, barely receiveing funds, has just

got off the ground and does not even have the full number of participants

yet. How can two professors, such as Dr's Weinberg and Williams reach a

complete conclusion to this issue, when this study has just begun?

Furthermore, how could they justify their opposal to a legislative proposal

to criminalize bestiality with incomplete participants and data for their

study? Their actions to officially oppose Missouri House Bill 1658 by

contacting legislators was very premature and unprofessional in my opinion.

Some further information on this study can be found below their letter they

sent to Missouri Legislators.

Their statement here says it all , and that they essentially equate

bestiality with being homosexual:

" ...Remember that less than half a century ago, all states but one

criminalized homosexual acts because many people were uncomfortable with the

idea of sexual behavior with members of the same sex. This destroyed the

lives of many citizens. Please do not make this same mistake by pursuing HB

1658 any further. "

Dr Weimberm was pledged $50,000 for his " study " by Oregon dog breeder,

American Kennel Club licensed field trial judge and kennel operator Douglas

<snip> who is under investigation by the American Kennel Club, and his

national dog breed club for encouraging, allowing and permitting a

bestiality promoting web site to be placed upon a web server and domain he

runs. This is a conduct prejudicial to the welfare and interests of dogs.
