Guest guest
UPDATE - URGENT NEWS ADVISORY 1:32 p.m./Monday/April 17, 2000 WHALE DEFENDER BOAT RAMMED, DESTROYED; ACTIVIST INJURED NEAH BAY - The Coast Guard has repeatedly rammed a whale defender boat, and destroyed it - sending one activist to the hospital in Neah Bay and another to jail, according to on-the-spot reports from Ocean Defense International Monday afternoon. World Whale Police's Bill Moss was arrested, and crewmate Julie Woodyear hospitalized with unknown injuries earlier Monday as they raced to the scene of the Makah's first attempt to kill a whale this Spring. She is reportedly at a hospital in Neah Bay. Witnesses say that the Coast Guard rammed the 20-foot fibreglass WWP boat. No other details are known. Ocean Defense International vessels are on the scene, as are activists Jonathan Paul and Jake Conroy, both arrested last year as they attempted to escort whales to safety past the Makah gunboats and Coast Guard. -30- ODI webpage: www.safepassing.org/odi / email: oceandefense2000
