Guest guest
I sent a longer version, I modified this copy slightly to make it easier for those interested to modify and use. Thank you for your support: ========================================== Dear Representative, My name is ---------, and I support A.S.A.I.R.S, an awareness group advocating for legislation to make Sexual abuse of animals, commonly known as: " Bestiality " or " zoophilia " illegal in Missouri and 23 other states that have no laws on this abuse issue, including our/your state. This sick, taboo, and ignored issue is very much real and practiced daily by thousands or more in our country alone. A simple query of internet search engines for " bestiality " will give you an idea of what is coming down the pike. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) , the ASPCA, HFA and other groups have deemed bestiality to be sexual abuse to animals, and a serious issue to address and ban, not only for the animals but for the future societal implications of sexual abuse of animals as a possible starting point for more serious sexual crimes such as pedophilia and rape. If the HSUS and other National Organizations can take advocating the banning of this disgusting act and form of animal abuse seriously, Why don't legislators in our state? Recently this issue has been addressed in detail in Missouri, where myself, a local animal welfare lobby group (MAAL), the world known widely respected ASPCA, HSUS, HFA, ASAIRS and others supporting making sexual contact with animals a crime resulted in legislation HB 1658. Proposed by Rep Hanaway and co-sponsored by Rep Hollingsworth to criminalize Bestiality in Missouri as a Class D Felony, per a recent (Jan 19, 2000) Joplin Globe article at: http://www.joplinglobe.com/000119/regional/story5.html Another article located at: http://www.mdn.org/2000/STORIES/perv.htm Also contains an article by Michael P.Carney which had this quote from the HSUS: " Bestiality is a predictor and indicator of other criminal activity, said Claire Ponder, a spokesman for the Humane Society of the United States, who said a history of bestiality is found in about 40 percent of domestic violence cases. " A recent case in California involving bestiality where this is illegal and the man caught abusing several horses appears at: http://members.xoom.com/pro4animal/house.html This has a copy of the Los Angeles Sheriff dept complaint form, and a newspaper clipping. The man was out on bail for this when he was caught AGAIN. The Bill was introduced and read on the Missouri House Floor on Thursday 1/20/00 and already has over 20 supporters and more jumping aboard daily. This Bill (HB 1658) can be tracked on the Missouri State Government Site at: http://www.house.state.mo.us/bills00/bills00/HB1658.htm Also, " The River Front Times " , a local St. Louis Weekly Newspaper, printed an article and editorial on this issue, which was followed by " Letters to the Editors " in two more subsequent editions with this issue. Here are links to the online articles: http://www.rftstl.com/issues/1999-12-15/ray.html?elink http://www.rftstl.com/issues/1999-12-15/news2.html?elink As you can see for yourself, this is a real issue in Missouri and abroad; including our/your state of Iowa, and will become further news nationally as this issue progresses and evolves further in this year's Missouri Legislation. If your staff researches the existing laws in other neighboring states on this issue, they will find that ALL STATES adjacent to Missouri (Except ours/yours) have laws criminalizing Bestiality. Also, from the looks of it, HB 1658 in Missouri will roll right along and it will be criminalized in Missouri this year. This leaves our/your state of Iowa the prefered place for these practioners of " Bestiality " (also known as Zoophiles) to move to, so they have no legal worries about their abusive practices. The legislation in Missouri was started when a Joplin man boasted of there being no laws that could touch him, and he went on the Jerry Springer show as well as a documentary in England. Missouri became known as : " The Bestiality state where animal sex was legal " Do you want this to happen to our/your state? Yes, some online zoophiles (even from your state) who practice bestiality include pet-sitters, veterinarians, dog groomers, stable workers and other fields related to animals. They like to work around their victims, just like pedophiles like working around children. There are even personal ads on various online zoophile forums from Iowa Residents seeking animals to have sex with, others to " train " them on how to have sex with animals, and eventhe age of 14! Recent studies have shown that in North Western Missouri (right at your border), about half of the incarcerated sex offenders started with sexually abusing animals first, per the River Front Times research and article on this issue. As you can see, this is a very serious matter that needs addressed by our State Legislators. Please help make Bestiality illegal in our state by introducing a bill to criminalize this act in Iowa.
