Guest guest
Zine-on-an-Email December 1999 Edited by Andy Savage Poem of the Month In the last month of the century You can't help but reflect We're living in a world That will never be perfect But at the end of every storm There's always a new dawn. Lovely Ivor Reviews Tears in the Fence 23, edited by Dave Caddy Really classy small press magazine of poetry, fiction and reviews. There is a strong inclination towards environmental themes, though it avoids the predictable. £5 from: Dave Caddy, 38 Hod View, Stourpaine, Blandford Forum, Dorset, DT11 8TN, England. " tantrum ego " by Daniel Prendiville A 10 track cd of upbeat pop. 5 tracks of guitar stuff, which reminded me a little of early ELO, and 5 tracks of midi stuff, which sometimes made me think of Abba. The final track, 'Bad News Day' is a very funny collage of telephone messages. I liked it! website: http://listen.to/reincheque email: reincheque The Small Press Guide 2000, edited by Kerrie Pateman 375 pages of small press magazines, with lots of information and contact addresses. Now in its 5th year, pretty much an essential item for anyone who wants to whizz their poetry all over the place! £9.99 from: Writers' Bookshop, Remus House, Coltsfoot Drive, Woodston, Peterborough, PE2 9JX, England. Electroshock Presents Electroacoustic Music Volume 3 A 70 minute cd featuring 7 artists from Britain, USA, Argentina, Germany and Austria. I preferred the soothing stuff to the more jolting noises. There's lots of ideas and experimentation, though I don't think I could listen to it very often. Artemiy Artemiev, U1. Krilatskaya, 31-1-321, 124614, Moscow, Russia. website: www.gamma-shop.com Perceptions are Reality, by John Hirst The best poems in this little chapbook are the ones where John is writing about the injustices which make him angry, such as this one: The Son of a Mining Man I shared his God awful existence, that cruel conveyor belt lifestyle of regulated, rotated shift work. His days. His tears. His nights. Coal dust mascara eyes, ingrained deep fake tan, those blue bruises and the mandatory fresh raw gash, a battered boxer meets drag queen. Standard hallmarks of a coal face worker, bread winner, no shirker. Many years on it still plagues me, I hear it, his gut wrenching, hacking, wheezing cough. One third....that 'Woodbine' blight. One third....his brutal bronchitis. One third....common coal tar cocktail. A breed apart.....My dad.....the mining man. £2 from: John Hirst, 37 Micklehill Drive, Shirley, Solihull, B90 2PU, England.
