hi friends,

i received many wise suggestions from the group. i wanted to let you

all know that on friday i went to home depot and purchased several live

mouse traps and an electronic device that sends out a high-pitched

pulsating frequency supposedly disliked by large insects, spiders and

mice and unheard by companion animals and humans. this great link was

provided: http://www.tesco-shopping.com/pestcontrolPR34.htm

http://www.martleyelectronics.co.uk/pestcontrol-rodent.html.

my cat is unconcerned by the electronic device and it was low in cost.

since i plugged it into the wall nearest the hole the mice have been

accessing, we haven't seen or caught one mouse. hooray. several of you

suggested the device and while it seems an unlikely solution, it is

working fabulously and humanely.

a cat hunt was also another top suggestion. apparently, my cat also

practices nonviolence. she would help me and my boyfriend corner the

mice and then run up and kiss (yes, kiss) them on the head. cute, but

frustrating.

and the last suggestions was to cover ALL houses accessed by the mice.

PETA's site also mentions that no amount of live traps will deter the

mice bc they will keep coming if they can get in. this certainly seemed

true in our case. (our landlord still hasn't been out to the apartment

to close up the holes, but the pulsating gizmo has repelled the mice.)

thank you all for your suggestions, they were greatly appreciated.

regards,

hi all,

recently my house became infested with mice (eww!) i was hoping some of

you might have some tips for how i can get them to leave and prevent

them from returning. i have been trapping them and re-realsing them in

a nice park far from home. Currently i am using live traps, and while

it is helping, it's not solving the problem and the problem is getting

worse... i don't want to have to resort to using poison, but if the

problem persists i may have no other choice. this particularly bothers

me bc i have a cat (and there are many neighbor cats) and i fear she

will get into the poison, and/or, the mice will contaminate the cat's

food, which seems to have been why they were in the house. i have since

sealed my cat's food when she is not eating, but i am sure that will

only drive them into my kitchen cupboards.

any thoughts/suggestions? does anyone know of an " ecologically safe "

pest control method? also, i was told that mice can carry diseases to

cats. does anyone know if this is true?

fyi-- home depot sells live/human traps.

thanks,
