Rodents

Hi,

There are many humane traps available on the Internet. But you would

need to have a place to release them, like a wilderness area that is

far from homes.

One way to catch a bunch at once is to have a metal container that

has some grain on the bottom, and boxes next to it so the rodent can

jump in, but can't jump out. You put the lid on and take them to the

wilderness area. You have to do it right away, of course.

The best way to control them is prevention, so you cover up any

holes they can get into and get rid of hiding places. Ammonia-soaked

rags repel rodents, so that can get them out of the areas you want

to block up. Also, they should have natural predators outside. I

have owls and coyotes, but maybe you don't. I don't let cats catch

them, as in my area at least, some rodents are carrying the plague.

But if you have cats in the house, they are a good deterrent in the

house.

Rodents can burn down your house and spread some really scarey

diseases. You have to remove them from your living quarters, no

matter how sad that may be. I know despite these suggestions some

people want to kill them. If you use poison, that is a risk to

wildlife. This product is supposed to be more humane, but I know a

lot of you won't approve (it's non-toxic to wildlife and it puts the

rodent in a coma, and it dies while asleep):

If you do block off holes, please put some Rodetrol in the hole

first, so you can at least give any trapped rodents a less painful

death.
