Guest guest
Hi everyone, A friend of mine attended last weekends Pacifica VFP very reluctantly. We were scheduled to take a beachwalk but the party time conflicted. I went to the VFP and told her to meet me there. We agreed she'd come to the library parking lot and then we would walk and I'd return to the party later. When she arrived, I insisted she come inside. She felt " icky " about it and was hesitant because she's a carnivore and came without food to share. Backtrack: We had traveled together 2 years ago to NYC and I forced her into many vegan restaurants, which she loved. She has also been to Herbivore and enjoyed it, and she's enjoyed many home-cooked vegan meals at my house...but she was still an animal-loving (2 dogs, 3 cats) carnivore. She arrived at the VFP hungry so she managed to generate the courage to come inside. She even met up with one of her co-workers! She ate and loved it. Then she took a " Veg Starter kit " and " Why Vegan? " brochure. I got an email from her today saying she's slowly but surely transitioning to vegetarian!!!!! It's a bit curious since it was the VFP that inspired her. We've been friends for more than 3 years but I guess you're not ready until you're ready...she seems ready. Her email said , " No more flesh for me! " Knowing her very well, I imagine she may fall back into eating animals from time to time but I think she is going to make a huge shift in her diet overall. Wooo Hooo!!!!! :-) Amy Lynn Caplan Pacifica
Guest guest
Hi folks, This is such a wonderful story! Amy, thanks for sharing, and most importantly - for inviting your friend. "It's a bit curious since it was the VFP that inspired her. We've been friends for more than 3 years but I guess you're not ready until you're ready...she seems ready. " Just shows that whatever we can do to include our non-veg friends in our veg activities and interests does make a difference, when we least expect it! As a general rule, non-veg people are welcome & encouraged to attend BAVEG events. What a great way to start off the first Vegan Food Party of 2006.
