For anyone attending the BayLeaf Cafe dinner, or just going another time, I highly recommend the curry carrot soup. It's delicious! The sushi is also good.

BayLeaf Cafe is also independently owned/operated by two local vegans, and just for the record, I'm not affiliated with them; my recommendation is purely as someone who enjoys eating there.

In our recent BEST OF VEG 2005 survey, based on total votes cast, they won Best South Bay and Peninsula

Thinking of veg restaurants on the Peninsula, I was at Vegetarian Gourmet in San Mateo yesterday evening (they also won in BEST OF VEG for Best New Restaurant) and aside from another table with 1 diner and our table of 3, the restaurant was empty (this was about 6 to 8:30). This restaurant is a good choice both for folks who like faux meats and those who do not as they have a big selection of dishes. Off the top of my head, a few favorites are: Chen Pi Beef, Vegetarian Chicken Curry (the sauce is thicker than the Vegetable Curry, you can ask them to make it without the faux chicken), Family Style Tofu .. tried a new dish last nite, the Spicy Eggplant which was also good (and not spicy). For an extremely spicy dish, try the Szechuan chow mein (people have enjoyed this at the monthly dinner that Peggy organizes on the 3rd Friday of the month)

I know restaurants aren't charities and don't deserve our support in the same regards that non-profit organizations do, but if you are dining out, and you like the food, please consider supporting these all-vegetarian restaurants so they do remain in business to serve us when we feel like dining out.

Cheers,

Tammy
