I have shopped at Other Avenues (on Judah between 44th and 45th Avenues, San Francisco) regularly for five years, with nothing but positive results.  The food is organic and of high quality; the workers are members of the store co-op and knowledgable; the store has so many vegan options (alternative vegan cheese, sour cream, butter, etc.); the shampoos and skin care items are cruelty-free; there is a large selection of natural vitamin supplements, and for $25 you can get a discount card where 5% of your purchase is deducted for six months.  The card pays for itself very quickly.  They also have extras like fresh flowers, gift items and cookbooks.
