Guest guest
Hi everybody, Some of you may have already seen that there are six newspaper stands around San Francisco that are filled with vegetarian starter guides! This is thanks to the generosity of PETA and local activists: Christine G., Gabe, Kim, Laura, Nancy, and Ron. (Not sure if I forgot anyone?) These activists maintain the stands to ensure that they are neat looking and filled with vegetarian starter guides! I am writing because there is an opportunity to significantly expand the number of locations around San Francisco that have newspaper stands filled with vegetarian starter guides! You may have noticed that the city recently put in " pedmounts, " large dark green structures that hold many different publications (as opposed to the individual plastic newspaper stands that we currently have) right near Powell and Market. These stands are much better than the individual ones because the city actually takes responsibility for maintaining them, so activists filling that stand would not have to worry about cleaning off graffiti or scraping off stickers or whatever other junk people put on them that make the stands less appealing. This city is building more of these " pedmounts " in the Castro and in Union Square, and we have the opportunity to be in 20 different newspaper stands in these fantastic locations! This is where you come in! We need people to take responsibility for filling these stands with vegetarian starter guides. What this entails is having PETA send guides to your house (for free, of course) and then filling the stands (however many you want to take responsibility for) as often as needed-- probably once a week or once every two weeks. It's hard to say exactly, but that shouldn't be too far off. This is something where it is very advantageous to have a car since the guides can be heavy if you have a few hundred of them in a box. This is such a fantastic way to promote vegetarianism and it takes so little work: just dropping guides off occasionally and replenishing them when necessary. Just think about walking around in busy areas of San Francisco and seeing vegetarian starter guides in newspaper stands everywhere you look! PETA has said that they will pay the $30 per stand (a ridiculously fantastic price) it costs for as many stands as we can get people to fill in these two locations: Union Square and Castro. If anybody (a) would be willing or interested in finding out more about stocking these stands, or (b) wants to donate any amount of money towards this cause to save PETA the expense, please let me know! Thank you, Nora
