Guest guest
Lettüs is seriously my new favorite restaurant in SF. While not completely veg (they do serve animal flesh and cheese), almost everything is organic, and everything vegan on their menu is specifically marked vegan. Their chefs have a goal of making anything vegan that they can possibly make vegan (for example, their pesto is vegan, and their mayo is vegan), so they are definitely committed to catering to those of the veg persuasion. The food is even *good*, full of flavor and quality, with variety and rotating specials, so you don't have to feel like you're compromising your taste buds. They have an amazing brunch, with vegan pancakes and an excellent tofu scramble. And this is coming from someone who is incredibly bored of tofu scramble. " Hi folks, Steve, thanks for sharing. I checked out their website ( http://www.lettusorganic.com/ ) and it's good to see another omnivore restaurants make vegan easily available, like Fellini's in Berkeley. (I've seen Fellini's posts on Craiglist looking for staff and they always emphasize their vegan foods and vegan clientele.) It is especially good that they mark their vegan options on the menu. Lettus is still fairly new (open about a month) so maybe their vegan fare will expand. I'd think many would remember Das' BAVRT (Bay Area Vegetarian Restaurant Trek) ? From 1993 to 2003, well before the surge in local veg & AR groups and mailing lists, Das organized a monthly dinner that was always vegan. He would go to veg restaurants as well as non-veg ones. His goal was to promote vegetarianism through the power of economics by showing restaurants the demand for veg foods. His dinnners flourished for an amazing number of years, and it was only towards the last few that he had guest hosts. For the majority of BAVRT, he organized and hosted all the dinners. Anyways, good to see that more restaurants are seeing the value in promoting vegan foods. Just like large companies like Safeway's finally jumping on the "organics" bandwagon, let's hope "vegan" is the next big trend!! Cheers, Tammy Map it Veg! http://www.frappr.com/baveg http://www.frappr.com/vegetarians ____ "This is my protest against the conduct of the world. To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think it's a strong one." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer
