Guest guest
Two ways to help animals in San Francisco on Sunday, January 8, 2006! Come to one or both. Please note the weather: *The Noon leafleting at KFC will go forward if it is sunny, cloudy or lightly drizzling, but the leafleting part of the day is canceled in the event of rain. *The 1:15 p.m. letter-writing luncheon to benefit animals is ON, rain or shine. (1) Join the Veggie Jews' Tsedakah Brigade and participate in the PETA campaign against Kentucky Fried Cruelty (see www.Kentuckyfriedcruelty.com). You can educate the public regarding KFC's treatment of chickens by passing out leaflets at KFC, 1900 Irving Street at the corner of 20th Avenue in San Francisco from Noon to 1:00 p.m. PETA is providing the literature. (2) At 1:00 p.m. we'll walk two blocks to Shangri La vegetarian restaurant (2026 Irving St. at 22nd Ave., 731-2548), a Kosher-vegan restaurant, where we'll arrive and order around 1:15 p.m. This is a chance to eat tasty, low-cost, Chinese vegan food; to socialize; and most importantly, to spend a few minutes writing letters to help relieve the suffering of animals. Suggestions for subjects and recipients of letters will be available but feel free to bring your own agenda, as well as your own paper, envelopes, pen and stamps. For information and to RSVP, write to veggiejews Bonnie Knight San Francisco [Thanks to Bay Area Vegetarians for leading the way with this format for activism.] From www.veggiejew : Description of Veggie JewsVeggie Jews is an international organization dedicated to providing a support group for Jewish vegetarians and vegans and projecting vegetarian, vegan and animal rights consciousness into the Jewish community. The group offers periodic restaurant outings in local communities as well as online daily news, opinions and activist alerts. As a , Veggie Jews offers group members the ability to easily communicate online with each other. We also offer several ways to put "tsedakah" (good deeds, charity) into action with a speakers' bureau, veggie cooking demonstration panel and the Tsedakah Brigade, our animal rights activist wing. Veggie Jews is not a singles or religious group, but single and observant people are always welcome to participate as are Jews of all ages and our non-Jewish friends. The group was founded in San Francisco but, thanks to volunteer hosts, events also take place in New York City and Los Angeles and can take place anywhere. Membership is free. If you wish to receive news, information, discussions and notices of events, you can choose to receive either individual e-mails or a daily digest of each day's posts in a single e-mail. Or, if you prefer, you can choose to receive only special notices of official Veggie Jews' events. Welcome to Veggie Jews, Pete Cohon Jason Moses And remember: It's only kosher if it's cruelty-free!
