Guest guest
December 20, 2005 So Senator Stevens says he's " chronically depressed " over his lack of success in getting those oil rigs up in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge (today's San Francisco CHRONICLE, front page). " Ethically-challenged " would be a more apt description. This is the cry-baby who swore to resign from the Senate if they took away money for his " bridge to nowhere. " They did, and he didn't. Pity. The U.S. Senate will be voting on this crucial matter tomorrow. Let the members know what you think TODAY. (Google " U.S. Senate e-mail addresses " for all the members' addresses and phone numbers. It's an 8-page print-out, which would be good to keep handy.) Call as many Senators as you can, especially Republicans. Senator John McCain has said that he would vote for the defense bill even though it included Refuge drilling language. He needs to hear from us, especially since he seems to be running for the Presidency. And let Senator Stevens know what you think, too: stevens.senate.gov/contact.cfm. I just called his office and got through immediately, to his secretary's regret: 202/224-3004. His fax number is 202/224-2354. Many of the Refuge birds pass through the Bay Area, so this is a local as well as national and international issue. Make those calls! This could be our last chance to save the Refuge and its myriad inhabitants.
