Vegetarian Gourmet and Christmas Day

Hi folks

Just a FYI for folks looking for a veg restaurant open on Christmas Day, Vegetarian Gourmet in San Mateo is open. Someone asked the owner during our dinner last nite, so thought I'd share that info for folks interested.

Kudos to Peggy for organizing a great dinner there last nite. There were 16 of us, and we had a long table running the length of the restaurant. Fortunately (since we were so noisy when we were talking), the restaurant wasn't too crowded. Unfortunately, the place doesn't seem to have found its following yet because except for us, it was pretty quiet for a Friday nite (which is not a good sign for the long-term success of any restaurant, especially a veggie one!)

But Vegetarian Gourmet is getting good reviews from people who have tried -- both folks who like faux meats and folks who don't. So, if you're in the San Mateo area, give it a try! For folks who like travelling by CalTrain, there's a station in San Mateo and its also accessible by SamTrans bus and easy street parking (no meters) for cars. It was interesting to see the cross-section of people who attended the dinner. Guess there really is a need for a dinner in this area! Maybe if we can get more BAVeg folks to map their location on the BAVeg frappr map, we may yet discover other areas with sufficient interest for events. FYI for folk, the frappr map is based only on zip code.

Please pass this second link to everyone you know who is veg - it'll give us an overall perspective of vegetarianism in the United States.

"This is my protest against the conduct of the world. To be a vegetarian is to disagree--to disagree with the course of things today. Starvation, world hunger, cruelty, waste, wars--we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement and I think it's a strong one." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer
