Guest guest
We are looking for a person or couple to care for several thousand quail that have been rescued from a slaughterhouse during a humane enforcement action. There is a farm next to Farm Sanctuary in Orland that is willing to provide a barn and space for the quail as well as caretaker quarters for the person or persons looking after the birds. Ideally, this is a position for a couple whose dream job it is to work full time caring for rescued farm animals. The ideal caretaker will have had some experience caring for chickens or turkeys as the proper care for this many quail is similar. Responsibilities will include feeding the quail twice a day, ensuring that water is available for the birds, cleaning the barn and providing fresh bedding, and generally looking after the birds to make sure they are healthy. The position would require living full time on the farm at least through spring/early summer. The cost of seizing this many animals and providing veterinary care form them has seriously drained our resources, but we will provide food and housing and a stipend to cover living expenses for the person or persons taking on the position. If you are interested, please contact the Bureau of Humane Law Enforcement at brenda.
