Guest guest
Greetings, I am helping to coordinate nutrition education for a nonprofit called NEAR (Nutrition Education, Agricultural Responsibility), and am looking for other veg*s who might be interested in participating. NEAR is the sponsoring organization for the Contra Costa Co. Farmers Markets, and the mission is basically in the name: to increase awareness of nutrition and agricultural responsibility/sustainability issues among schools and in the community... via school gardens and salad bars, as well as education at the market about sustainability, organic produce, buying local, nutrition, etc. The first salad bar opened last month at Strandwood Elementary, and the first school garden groundbreaking was last month at Pleasant Hill Middle School. It has been very successful so far, and things are just beginning to get really exciting! It would be great to get other veg people in on the planning, as I am pretty sure that most of the others in the group are omnivores. I'm working on this project from the nutrition aspect; but it would be great if there were other veg people involved who could bring their knowledge of true sustainability to the table (not wasting land/resources to raise/slaughter/exploit animals, etc.). If you are interested in participating or finding out more about it, you are welcome to attend the next meeting this Tuesday at 5pm in Walnut Creek. Sorry it is such short notice... there will be other meetings if you can't make it to this one. I'd be happy to provide more information, just send me an e-mail and let me know. Thanks, and have a great week! Jill Reyman FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
