Guest guest
" But, at the same time, the word is not presently cleary defined (even within the vegan community). " The only vagueness that I'm aware around the word vegan has to do with how to pronounce it. Although, I have heard one or two comment about vegan food vs vegan lifestyle. For example, someone may be vegan as far as what they eat but not carry that over to other aspects of their lifestyle. (i.e. if someone was vegan for health reasons, they may not be concerned with wearing leather whereas someone who is vegan for ethical reasons would be) American Vegan Society's definition of vegan shows a comprehensive definition of vegan. http://www.americanvegan.org/vegan.htm The Merriam Webster dictionary definitions are okay but they also have (as far as I'm concerned) incorrect pronounciations http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/vegan In the UK, it's wonderful how common food products are labeled as suitable for 'vegetarian' or 'vegan', and their UK society there plays a big part. Check out the Vegan Society of the UK and their definition: http://www.vegansociety.com/html/food/criteria.php Cheers, Tammy Join Team BAVeg and volunteer to make a difference..Free Restaurant Guide or Create Your Own - Monthly Event Calendar - Veggie Mentor ProgramCurrent Newsletter - Veg Food Finder Bay Area Vegetarians * www.BayAreaVeg.org
