Hey all, I just found out that Bevan Dufty's Pit Bull legislation will be heard Monday, Nov 7, in the City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee, City Hall, Room 263 (Off Van Ness between Grove and McAllister - two blocks North of Civic Center MUNI/BART). ROSALIND PLEASE PHONE AND TELL CHIN CHI! The hearing begins at 1pm and the dog related legislation begins at item 7 on the agenda list. The only items preceding it are specific parking and stop sign decisions, so the dog legislation could come up pretty early in the meeting. I can't be there, and it is especially important that some of us show up to speak to the measure, especially to: - Ask that, at least for Pit Bulls, San Francisco become a Rescue Only city. And mention that this could be a first step toward San Francisco becoming a much more humane Rescue Only city for all dogs and cats. (As currently written, the legislation exempts some breeders and sellers.) -Ask that the document be amended to say " Owner or Guardian " instead of simply " Owner " to bring it into compliance with the " Guardian " legislation passed by the Board a few years ago. -Ask that the legislation be amended to require behavior school training of all pit bulls and pit bull guardians, and pay for the training for low income residents. - Ask that the legislation also cover other costs that it creates for low income residents. REMEMBER! The Animal Advocacy Working Group has not taken a position yet in support of spaying and neutering, so support that part of Dufty's legislation only as an individual, not as a representative of the working group. To see the hearing details, go to: http://www.sfgov.org/site/bdsupvrs_page.asp?id=29796 I couldn't find the legislation text on the web, so you'll have to ask Dufty's office for it tomorrow morning. Peace, Eric
