I was also asked by the owner how the pizza was. I mentioned first off that vegan pizzas are a challenge under the best conditions and mine was good, the only thing I would change was a few of the extra toppings I chose. I chose a Vegan pizza with 4 extra toppings: mushrooms olives garlic bell pepper I told him that some vegetables " drain " alot of water (moisture) when heated and in my case the bell peppers were the biggest cause of that with mushrooms second. I again mentioned that it is a problem with all pizzas, not just vegan pizzas. I explained that the crust would have been perfect had " I " not chosen those two in combination. I also suggested that he have small handouts at the counter explaining his Vegan pizza and the ingredients. I mentioned that it was not really for myself but for others and it would save him alot of time detailing over and over what is in his vegan pizzas. I told him that I myself am a " nutritional vegan " being drawn towards vegan foods for nutritional values and would not be so critical as some others. I showed him a leather belt I have had for 32 years since I was a kid and told him that in alot of cases that would draw some frowns. That made him relax noticably since he is trying very hard since his last encounter with the " cheese " episode. He was totally unaware that his pizza is being discussed on the the Internet and I told him that it was that fact that enabled me to come to his business. When I google on "vegan pizza oakland", the first result is Pizza Plaza ! It's actually their entry in our Ultimate Guide. So, if you've been thinking about reviewing their vegan pizza, but haven't yet, please do! This is why we encourage reviews in the Ultimate Guide -- it helps people find good places to eat. And, unlike reviews in emails which can be hard to find later, reviews in UG are easy to find. http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=579 And voting in the BEST OF VEG 2005 survey is also a great way to recognize favorite local restaurants serving vegetarian foods. It's just another way to promote veg excellence in local restaurant dining. So if you haven't voted yet, what are you waiting for? http://www.bayareaveg.org/vote Cheers, Tammy Veg and Animal Rights events, food, fun, and fellowship http://www.BayAreaVeg.org Check out the Ultimate Guide to Vegetarian Living in the San Francisco Bay Area ... veg foods, services, and more! http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug
