Guest guest
I went into Pizza Plaza today and asked him what brand of vegan cheese they use, and he said they use Follow Your Heart. He said that a few weeks ago, there was some confusion over the fake cheese, because (as stated in the original email that started this thread), they lost their supplier. In the interim search for a new supplier, they *temporarily* used some other fake cheese that apparetnly had casein in it. Like many non-vegans, the guy honestly didn't know that casein is a milk protein. Once he discovered the mistake, he stopped using the casein fake cheese. Now he is back to using Follow Your Heart. So yes, Pizza Plaza IS VEGAN! They also have a billion vegan toppings, including fake chicken, fake sausage and fake pepperoni. So, stop by the Plaza and check it out! ______________________ Message: 1 Tue, 18 Oct 2005 21:08:47 -0700 " Colleen A. They also reduce the price when you do that. So, that's one option as well. - celticwitch SFBAVeg Tuesday, October 18, 2005 5:43 PM Pizza Plaza not vegan Sorry to be the bearer of these tidings, but a friend of mine to whom I passed on the info about this restaurant stopped by to order something, and on asking, learned that the soy cheese they use contains casein, an animal product. She talked with the owner, who acknowledged the problem and said he's working on ordering a brand of truly vegan soy cheese that melts. I suppose if a number of us express an interest in a vegan product from him, he might be inclined to move more swiftly on the issue. Until then, it is vegetarian fare, but not vegan. And when someone learns that he has made the change, please share the info with the list. Thanks.
Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for their diligence in sharing information. It is always good to be able to educate restaurant owners and work with them to have more vegan options. Just a reminder - there is a category for Best Vegan Pizza in the BEST OF VEG 2005 survey :-) It'll be interesting to see who wins this year. Lanesplitter's is so far the undefeated vegan pizza favorite according to BEST OF VEG voters in 2003 and 2004. http://bayareaveg.org/vote Cheers, Tammy Best of Veg 2005 survey - http://bayareaveg.org/vote Oct SF dinner - 10/28 - http://www.evite.com//sfdinner_oct2005 Nov Compassionate Living Program - Holiday Celebrations: Survival Tips, Techniques, and Strategies Discussion Forum - http://www.bayareaveg.org/forum Event Calendar - http://www.BayAreaVeg.org/events Generation V - Voice of the Vegan Generation - podcast and blog
