Guest guest
So many Bay Area friends say " they love animals " while munching on a burger! Tammy and Chris said the long time vegans are usually the animal rights folks. here's some ideas on how some folks turned veggie.. Found it on this forum http://forums.craigslist.org/?forumID=2400 Vegan Victories < cookcounty > 10/17 15:27:19 My now-husband ate more meat than plants when I met him. At some point he started doing " meatless Monday. " Now he regularly goes 3-4 days without any meat (though I don't think he's had any vegan days). I have gotten him hooked on black beans, peppered tofu, hummus, and falafel. He is absolutely addicted to Gardenburger Riblets. My omni dad doesn't eat ice cream, but when I was visiting recently I bought some Soy Delicious and left it in the freezer. Now he wants to know where he can get more. He's also talking about switching from cow milk to soy. I'm not really an activist, I just eat what I eat and other people are curious. I don't get in anyone's face. It's pretty cool to see them making these changes, though. Good for you!!! Here's mine... < BigEnchiladas > 10/17 18:42:26 My SO was never interested in being vegetarian (we've been together 7 or 8 years) but after we moved in together and I didn't want him cooking meat, he started trying that weird stuff he was cooking for me (my family didn't cook much growing up, his did a lot) and slowing he started loving tofu He's now a vegetarian and doesn't mind drinking soymilk. My mom was a very heavy meat eater when I was young, and forced me to eat meat for a good chunk of my childhood, but in the last few years she has stopped eating meat and started drinking soymilk (she loves the strawberry kind from TJ's!) I think it also helps that her ex- hubby is a big meat eater and she doesn't want to be anything like him- but that works for me! I also have a good friend who lives in Arizona that I go visit about once a year, and the last few years she has started replacing hamburger meat with the soy kind, chicken with Quorn without telling her family and drinking soymilk for herself. It's so cool to be an inspiration to others! The health benefits are probably more what it's about for these people, but if it cuts down on cruelty then I'm fine with it. I'm a kind of reserved person, and never would give anyone a hard time about their diet, but people do tend to be curious and just really have no clue about factory farming or even that cholesterol comes from animals. Yay for the animals!!! nice one, my SO used to.. < VeggieDog > 10/17 19:33:44 eat meat when i met him. i am a pretty good cook and he only ate vegan at my house and when we were together. now he said he wouldn't dream of eating animals. now if i could only get him off cheese! his parents, have changed alot since i started going to see them. they now have silk soymilk in their fridge and trader joe's non animal tested dish soap. and finally raw sugar instead of white. his mom's even loves the veggie combo at the local ethiopian place. and i never 'got on them' about any of it, they just saw what i did. , Sara Jotoku <sjotoku> wrote: > > A conversation I had with a friend the other day summed up the dichotomous attitude of many people. We were talking about our " companion animals " she said, " Yeah, I'm an animal lover too....so the other day I was at this pig roast, and I was talking to this guy... " In one b > > " Tammy, Bay Area Vegetarians " <t wrote: > I think people who care for cats and dogs are people who are most likely to widen their circle of compassion to include other animals. But the question that I ask myself a lot is how do we reach these people -- these non veggie people -- with all the great reasons to be vegetarian -- for the animals, the environment, their own health, etc. >
