Guest guest
The Altamont Wind Farm has killed an estimated 17,000-26,000 raptors since the project began and at least 11 state-designated species of special concern. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors is set to approve permit renewals for Altamont Pass wind companies this Thursday, September 22 at 9 am at the Board Chambers in Oakland, 1221 Oak Street, 5th Floor, Room 512. Please attend this hearing or if you can't, call your Supervisor http://www.acgov.org/board/. Remind the Supervisors that they have an obligation to require measures that immediately reduce bird kills, rather than rewarding the companies with long term contracts that will result in continued violations of State and Federal bird protection laws. Simply urge the Supervisors to follow the recommendations put forth by the CA Energy Commission and the Attorney General's Office. Supervisor Gail Steele in particular needs to hear from you, as she appears to be the most sympathetic to the birds and was the only one to abstain from the vote on 7/7/05 that supported a very weak and ineffective plan. Supervisors Miley (staffperson is Seth Kaplan) & Lai-Bitker are also important to contact.
