We went camping in Southern Oregon in the Siskiyou National Forest for what

was supposed to be a 4 day trip. Our trip was extended to 9 days because

our truck's transmission went out and had to be completely replaced - very

unexpected! We were " stranded " in Brookings, Oregon for several days.

After our car got fixed, we drove up to Gold Beach (gorgeous coast!) and

then took our time making our way back to SF by stopping in Eureka, CA

overnight. We found a few good places to go for vegan dining and wanted to

share. We've sent them to the Happy Cow site. Thought this might be useful

for others traveling through these areas:

Cafe Kitanishi

632 Hemlock Street

Brookings, OR 97415

541-469-7864

An internet cafe with an espresso bar and a Japanese restaurant. Many, many

vegan options, and they use organic vegetables. Weird hours!?! I don't

even know what the hours are. They are posted on their front door, but they

are very complicated. I know that they open around 10am during for coffee,

have lunch hours and are open for dinner at 5pm Fri-Sat only.

Savory Natural Food

29441 Ellensburg, Ste. 5/6

Directly off Hwy 101

Gold Beach, Oregon

Wonderful, nearly all vegan/vegetarian organic produce Cafe, Deli, Juice Bar

and small natural foods market. Great selection and service. Tasty food at

great prices. Open Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, and Sat. 10am-5pm

Ijal's Jamaican Kitchen

Eureka, CA 95501

Excellent Jamaican food with a decent selection of tasty vegan/vegetarian

main courses/specials, most salads and appetizers are vegan. They have a

vegan chocolate mousse pie that's not too sweet and pretty good. Great

service and prices. Open Tues-Fri 10am-3pm and 5pm-9pm & Sat 12-10pm

Los Bagels

403 Second Street

Eureka, CA 95501

Large, clean, friendly bagel bakery and cafe. All bagels are vegan. They

have several vegan spreads such as veggies, smoked tofu, hummus, guacamole,

local organic jams. Full coffee shop drinks - including organic coffee, soy

milk, soy chai and soy hot chocolate. Vegan sweets - they had a very sweet

fresh vegan chocolate Oreo type cookie that day. It was yummy, but very

sweet.
