It's all over the news about the disaster that Katrina has left in her wake. I'm sure many of you are also thinking about the animals and how they are doing, and who is helping them. From Erik Marcus' podcast (see email below), I learned about a California Group "Noah's Wish" that is dedicated soley to responding to help animals in disaster situations, like this one.

Noah's Wish

Their website also contains a reference for being prepared for a disaster, which you can find at:

There is also information on the Humane Society of the United States webpage, and they also offer information on disaster preparedness.

Please share the links about disaster preparedness with anyone you know who has animals.

Cheers,

Tammy

Erik's Diner Digest [dinertalk] Thursday, September 01, 2005 6:11 PMtSubject: Vegan Com -- Erik's Diner Sept. 1st

Vegan.comErik's Diner Digest for the Week of September 1st. It was tough preparing for this week's podcast because of the distressing events surrounding the hurricane. In today's show, I mention a special offer through Sunday, Sept. 4th where I will donate $5 for each copy of Meat Market purchased using our Vegan.com link to Amazon.com. This money will go to Noah's Care, a group working in flooded parts of Louisiana rescuing abandoned pets.

Katrina, Newbie Activists, Animal Testing, Slate and Bias, Mad Cow, Bird Flu, Rob Torres on Vat-Grown Meat, OutKast Fashion (September 1st, 2005)This week's Erik's Diner starts with commentary about Hurricane Katrina. Someone in the Superdome said conditions there were comparable to how animals are treated. I beg to differ. I then talk about Noah's Wish -- a group that has brought a squad to Louisiana, rescuing pets who have been left behind to die. I mention Eric Prescott's latest podcast, as well as his commentary on animal testing. Which brings me to the subject of biased arguments, where I bring up a cou ple great Slate.com articles -- one on abortion and the other on drug war reporting. I then cover the latest mad cow news, as well as the USDA's decision to put the job of tracking animals into the meat industry's incapable hands. I also revisit the topic of avian flu, with the announcement that the UN thinks the disease may soon spread into Europe and Africa. My segment on vat-grown meat a couple weeks back led to some listener feedback, and I play a comment by Vegan Freaks co-author Rob Torres. And finally, I leave you with a candidate for the most irksome quote of the year --- straight from the lips of vegan OutKast rapper Andre Benjamin -- whose CD's I've decided not to purchase. Also, in today's show, I announced that I will be donating $5.00 to Noah's Wish for every copy of Meat Market purchased by Sunday Sept. 4th, from people using the Amazon.com link to the book on Vegan.com. Today's show is 38:46 minutes.
