Guest guest
August 17 As you probably know, hundreds of " spent " egg-laying hens have recently been turned over to local animal rescue groups by a Gilroy producer. Hundreds of additional birds may be made available this week, and the birds (and the " factory farming " issue) are getting some good press. (Now's the time for some Letters to the Editor.) But homes are needed for these abused chickens. If you can help (or know someone who could), please call Cindy Machado at the Marin Humane Society in Novato, 415/506-6209; or Kim Sturla (Animal Place), at 707/449-4814. Thanks, Eric Mills, coordinator ACTION FOR ANIMALS
