My veg sister and I were staying just a few blocks from the downtown one on a visit to Montreal last December; we must have eaten at Commensal at last 5 times! However, I wanted to add the eg restaurant worth going out of one's way for in Montreal: RESTAURANT CHUCHAI 4088 St. Denis St. Montreal, PQ Canada Phone: 514-843-4194 Chuchai is a predominately vegan Thai/pan-Asian restaurant, with a large menu filled with so many unusual items, you'll be sorry you can't sample everything.
