There is a vegetarian-friendly restaurant in San Carlos that is not on the BAVS list called Saffron. They serve Indian food, and at least half, if not more, of their dishes are vegetarian. I do not know how many dishes are vegan or if they use separate cookery. There food is quite good, and they have a daily lunch buffet and a dinner buffet on Tuesday and Sunday evenings. The majority of the buffet dishes are vegetarian. I ate there today and counted 11 vegetarian dishes and three meat dishes. They are located at 1143 San Carlos Avenue 650-593-4269.

I will add them to the BAVS list for future reference.

I've been going to Joy Meadow for over 10 years and have talked withValencia, the owner, often. Her overall concept for the restaurant hasbeen a transitional menu for meat eaters moving towards vegetarianism. She herself is a vegetarian. She has also made a point to not serve anybeef or pork dishes (essentially it is vegetarian, chicken and seafood). She has also put the vegetarian entrees first in the menu instead ofburied in the back pages below the drinks. For anyone deciding to gothere, you may want to call and ask her directly if she uses separatecookery for veg vs non-veg.James On BehalfOf ERKS410Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 9:18 AMveggiegrrrl; Subject: Re:

joy meadowAmy,I'm sorry you had a bad experience there. A vegan friend and I go therequite often and are assured that the food is not mixed with animalproducts. And it is really delicious! Of course we prefer going to all vegan/vegetarian restaurants, but as ithas been discussed there aren't any on the peninsula, and it is notalways feasible to drive into SF for lunch or dinner. Otherwise, ourfavorites are Bok Choy on Clement, Herbivore and Milennium.Elaine
