Guest guest
the one time i ate at joy meadow, my vegan tofu dish tasted like fish. YUCK. mixed restaurants, in my opinion, do a lousy job of keeping veg food uncontaminated with juices and smells of carcass foods and i hope most people in the veg will put their money into pure veg restaurants whenever possible. amy ------ --------------------- Fish is not a vegetable. Guest guest
Amy, I'm sorry you had a bad experience there. A vegan friend and I go there quite often and are assured that the food is not mixed with animal products. And it is really delicious! Of course we prefer going to all vegan/vegetarian restaurants, but as it has been discussed there aren't any on the peninsula, and it is not always feasible to drive into SF for lunch or dinner. Otherwise, our favorites are Bok Choy on Clement, Herbivore and Milennium. Guest guest
I've been going to Joy Meadow for over 10 years and have talked with Valencia, the owner, often. Her overall concept for the restaurant has been a transitional menu for meat eaters moving towards vegetarianism. She herself is a vegetarian. She has also made a point to not serve any beef or pork dishes (essentially it is vegetarian, chicken and seafood). She has also put the vegetarian entrees first in the menu instead of buried in the back pages below the drinks. For anyone deciding to go there, you may want to call and ask her directly if she uses separate cookery for veg vs non-veg.
