Guest guest
Hi, We had a wonderful trip to Farm Sanctuary yesterday. There was some gorgeous weather, and the animals were great. The turkeys followed us all over the farm. They are very sweet. Anyway, we did find some places to eat lunch and dinner in the area, so I thought I'd share them. The NV vegetarian restaurant in Woodland didn't answer their phone, so we didn't stop there. I hope they're still open. Chico isn't far from Farm Sanctuary. When you get off at the Orland exit, go right instead of left onto 32 and in about 30 minutes you're in Chico, which is a decent-sized town with a university. Here are some restaurants recommended by a Chico vegan who used to be part of the Chico Vegan Meetup (we ate at Sultan's Bistro for lunch, which was good): vegetarian co-op (Chico Natural Foods @ 8th and Main--good takeout sandwiches, open until 9, maybe 10 pm) Peeking Chinese Restaurant 243 W. 2nd Street Chico, CA 95928 Phone: 530-895-3888 Serves faux meats on a special menu. A little greasy, but no more so than any other Chinese restaurant. Grilla Bites http://www.grillabites.c om/ 119 W. Second St. Chico, CA 95928 Phone: 530-894-2691 Serves grilled sandwiches, offers vegan cheeze options on veggie grilled sandwiches, vegan soups clearly labeled, excellent salad bar (local produce). A nice guy owns the place. Moxies Café and Gallery 128 Broadway, Chico, CA 95928 Phone: 530-345-0601 Serves a couple of vegan items; very vegan aware, usually has one or more vegan baked goodies clearly labeled. Sultan's Bistro 300 Broadway St., Chico, CA 95928 Phone: 530-345-7455 Excellent falafel, green salad, and other middle eastern dishes. Be sure to tell them to leave out the tzatziki. Also a tempeh teriyaki burger. There are a couple of pizza joints in town; Celestino's offers a nice little veggie roll and also makes an awesome thin crust pizza and a good salad. (don't know if the dough is vegan) Saturday Farmer's Market Saturday morning 7am to 1pm; many organic vendors. Downtown Chico at 3rd and Wall. In Vacaville, we ate dinner at Fresh Choice, which is close to the freeway and convenient. The vegan and vegetarian items were clearly labeled, which was nice. It's in among the outlet shops. The directions are confusing, so asking directions isn't such a bad idea.
