Compassion NOT Cruelty on SFBAVEG

Hi folks

Please remember that this mailing list, SFBAVEG, exists for the

vegetarian, vegan, and aspiring veg*n community to network and support

each other.

While some of us are staunch vegans, others are not (yet). It is helpful

to educate to support one's perspective, or share your opinion... but

please use the right tool for the right job -- compassion, support,

encouragement, etc. Anger or disrespect isn't as effective and is more

likely to alienate than persuade. Email is a difficult communication

medium at times as the same words can convey vastly different meanings

(sarcasm vs politeness) and it can be difficult to know what was the

sender's true intent.

Personally, as someone who chooses to be vegan, I feel that the dairy and

egg industries are the cruelest and most inhumane animal agricultural

industries, and I understand why people feel so passionately about this.

What I would encourage is that people channel their passion into

compassionate action, whether it is through leafleting, outreach, writing

letters, etc -- it makes a difference!

I would encourage all aspiring vegans and vegetarians who wish to learn

more about California Animal Agriculture to attend the presentation that

Christine Morrissey will present on Sunday, June 5th, as part of our

Compassionate Living series. This program series is designed to examine

and present different topics related to vegetarian living, education, and

advocacy via speakers, discussions, and films.
